well i mean the stock TII is fast, but depending on what really.....

a perfect example.... 240sx with KA24DE, those things (most nissan sports) are torque monsters.... i mean not like they have VERY high torque and this and that.... but their low end torque is really LOW END, driving them u feel the power on start up and through every gear (well, lets not talk about 5th gear)....

the TII is fast, but i mean to feel the FULL power of the TII and it will handle the way u
want it..... then 1000-2000 rpms isn't the range u are going to get that..... starting at 2500-3000 u feel it, the car is COMPLETELY in your control.... second, and third will FLY.... and that power will carry u through (i would describe it as an exponential growth, obviously the no low end torque of rotary and the power of the turbo....)

i've read on other forums.... yes, the 240s don't have much power, but because of their long stroke in the KA block design, the power carries from 1000 to 6000 which means u get that power in all rpm ranges (again, lets not talk about 5th gear =)

after driving and comparing those two cars..... or any other car, as Terrh said, a metro.... yeah, it does feel different.... TIIs are nice cars.... they corner and accel (given in the right rpm range) the way u want.....

for myself, no matter how hard it is to maintain my Tii or find parts for it..... i am never going to throw it away and get a civic (i know/hope u are kidding jameswade) =D

--------------

sorry 87RX7TII, kinda hijacked your thread....

"check your ignition coils"
This is an answer I was looking for!

I did this last night... and im 90% sure thats my prob..
my front chamber STILL isnt working right and I think its either the coils and the plugs or just the plugs.. (i know 1 plug is fuked)

My car HAS torque.. it just looses it after the car starts to move.. 3.5k drop .. tire chirp and then bogggg..
I know 7's dont have break neck torque but you cant say they dont have any power down low..

If you take almost ANY manual trans car and rev it to around 3.5-4k and drop the clutch the car will spin rubber..... at least a little

Means that you're letting the clutch out too fast, possably without enough gas
You gotta keep it above 3.5K, and dont just dump the clutch at it if you're going to do a launch like that.

A proper launch will have you so busy, and the car moving so fast, by the time you're done, you're practically listening to the redline buzzer.

At least that is how mine worked.

if you want to launch right, pat the gas a little and rev th emotor up a few times. ive learned how to properly launch a car w/o bogging it; it requires slipping the clutch slightly. launching a turbo car requires patting the gas before slipping the clutch slightly. revving the engine up like that builds the boost while sitting still. i was able to launch the AWD DSM we had and spin 4 tires off the line in 1st gear. when that thing took off, it squatted so hard that the muffler on the back almost hit the ground. and that was w/ a stock turbo. the car hit 1.8 60' times on shitty, dry-rotted, half bald, mismatched all season tires. i was able to get the DSM up to 20 psi just sitting still. all you do is punch the throttle and let off when the RPM's get up to about 6000. the momentum of the engine accelerating will carry it past 6000, but when it falls back down to about 3000, punch it again. keep revving it like that. 3 or 4 pats of the gas, and the DSM was hitting 20psi and the Type S was blowing off full force.

and turbo lag is the time it takes for the turbo to spool up... not increase volumetric efficiency, not to hit positive manifold pressure, not to make noticable amount of torque... but SPOOL UP. if you are rollling in 1st gear, you should be able to punch it at 1000 rpms and be spooled up well before 3000 rpm. the DSM would hit full boost (20psi) by 2700rpms, so i think 8psi for you guys would be VERY attainable before 2700.

and i agree w/ whats his name; it sounds like ignition problems all the way.

NA's do make more torque down low than a T2; WHEN OFF BOOST. as soon as the turbo spools, the NA looks like a drop in the bucket. if you wanna talk torque, espeicially low and mid range, thats something i know about. my Supra would just break the tires loose rolling on the throttle in 2nd gear from a roll as soon as the turbo spooled (11psi). but, sadly, 320rwhp and 340rwtq isnt enough to keep me happy, especially w/ a 3800 lb car.

and just so you guys know, slower cars can feel faster than others just by the shape of their torque curves... if a car only makes 150 lb/ft peak torque at 2700 rpm, it would feel faster than a car that makes 190 lb/ft peak torque at 3500 rpm just cuz it gets off the line stronger... but that doesnt make it any faster. good low and mid range torque is what makes a beast of a street car. my supra didnt have much more torque than an LS1 but i beat them, even riding 3 deep. it just depends on RPM's and gears when it comes to similarly powered c ars.

a 3500-4000 rpm launch w/ sufficient clutch slip ought to get the T2 out of the hole like a scalded cat. if you are having to slip the clutch to the point where you think youre burning it or can even smell it, there is some kinda problem. you should have enough torque to let the clutch out in about a second, if you have to sit there slipping the clutch and holding the RPM's for a noticiable amount of time, you have power problems.

N332 I think...

I changed my plug wires BUT the problem still remains... The front rotor plugs are wet when removed... what is a good aftermarket ignition system??? I think mmy trailing coil is gone.. when I take off the T1 wire it arcs between the 2 terminals..

I'm using the msd for the leading and stock for the trailing however most people will tell you that the stock ignition system is fine. I would just get a leading and trailing coil pack from ebay if I where you. They are usually around 10 to 15 bucks for each.

Even though this isn't his problem, I've found slipping the clutch slightly from 4500 RPMs yields the best launch. There is little tirespin, and the load on the engine produces boost quickly. I've outlaunched every AWD car I've ever raced, even one while it was drizzling outside.. Also, I only run 225/50/16 712s at 12PSI..

For referance, with my current tires that can manage ~.8 g before breaking traction, I can dump my clutch at 2500 rpm and break all traction . . with my FC NA.

something is wrong with the original poster's car . . TII's are dogs when off boost but it shouldn't be that bad.

TIIs aren't dogs off boost when driven properly.. What type of tires do you have LS?

"10 to 15 bucks for each"

I can get coils for that cheap!?

I'm going to go through and recheck all my grounds today.. that seems to be a common problem I guess.

The wet plugs are not normal.

First, check for a badly leaking front injector.
I'd do a compression check, just to rule out a seal problem.

So does anyone think this is the reason I have a hard time chirping in second gear, or is it my driving?

I would def check for a leaky injector. But if you're only 'popping the clutch' @ 2.5k or so you want see a lot maybe a lil chirp. If you let loose at 3.5-4k you can get more tire squeling. But, why do you want to break traction? I understand your concern with it bogging down. But be grateful you have traction. Lot of TII's will just roast their tires through 1st until they catch and by then you're already having to go to 2nd.

I have 17x9 or 10's so I don't have a problem with traction unless I rev to like 4 or 4.5k rpm.

most of you guys are nuts. i have both a TII and an N/A. My turbo will destroy my N/A in every way shape and form. I can launch mt TII at 3500 and slide the clutch and the tires will still spin all the way through first. they are 245/45/17. something is wrong with his car.

Talking

If you want torque go 20b I know I'd rather get a nice whole shot not spinning my tires all the way down the track.

I'm having the exact same problem with my TII. Down low it has NO power at all. We are talking lawn mower engine power. Boost hits at about 3500 and off you go much faster. To me, it feels like its running extremely rich, though I have no idea why. Its an 87 TII. I have an 87 N/A as well that has much better power down low and much crisper throttle response.

I did the "ultimate vacuum test" on my car and it sounded like a whirlwind was under my hood... I popped everything off and ziptied all of the lines .. reinstalled the UIM and did it again.. not so much wind but there is definately a problem with lots of air pushing somewhere by the "spider lines" and I mean a LOT of air... ... I took everything off again and tapped up the UIM holes and tried the test but I couldnt find the leak anymore... reinstalled th UIM, retest, loud blowing noise...
Could a bad vacuum leak cause this?

This is how mine is down to the "T" .... low end NO power.. high end 3k+ and it takes off like a bat out of hell...
I think mine is an ignition problem because even at 5k rpms+ the car backfires and such...
same thing happends when Im boosting....

I am running a Walbro fuel pump and I think thats whats causing the car to run pig rich...
im getting close to 10mpg tops

Strange! I'm getting around 10 MPG also! We must have the exact same problem.

OK..so S4 TII are notorious for a lack of boost below 3K...sometime even 3.5K. What can be done to get the turbo spooling earlier? I hear the S5 manifold and turbo will help..but i'm thinking the slightly higher compression is helping too. My friend and I are willing to sacrafice a lot of peak power to just spool faster. Is a coplete S5 UIM and turbo the way to go?

I'm new to the turbo realm of FC, so be gentle.

Get rid of the cats and stock exhaust, although that requires some fuel mods that I don't know how to do, the turbo lovers in here will probably give some info on that.

Belt driven boost is the real deal! It's like adding a third rotor: same power band, same INSTANT power, muahahahahaha.....
