The rotary engine mixes oil with the air/fuel mixture at a rate of 1quart of oil per every 1000 gallons of fuel consumed. OMP (Oil Metering Pump) or MOP (Metering Oil Pump- as designated by Mazda) are both refering to the oil metering pump. It is a small oil pump attached to the front cover of the engine and it pumps oil through small tubes to the 4 oil injectors on the engine. The pump is shaft driven and the amount of oil to be metered in is based on throttle position (either mechanical linkage for the 86-88 engines, or electrical signal for the 89-92 engines.) The shaft driving the pump is geared to the front of the crankshaft.
Oil Metering Pump... on front of front cover of engine below water pump... youll see 4 plastic (probly tannish faded) clear lines running up the front off to the left side. if it is an electric style then youll see wires coming from it. but since yours is an 86, and unless they switched the wiring harness from an s5, you probly will not have any clue of finding year of motor, and electric omp will not work on s4, so either way they had to put a mechanical one on there. doesnt really matter anyhow theres not much hp difference if thats what your trying to find out... maybe a 15 -20 hp difference thats not much
