Engine troubles

hello all, I have an '88 FC3S with some major problems. First and foremost is getting it to start up. the day i bought it off a guy without testing it or anything ( i was really desperate) started up and drove home a good 30 or so miles just fine no problems. the day after, it's been giving me hell ever since.
anyway, I earlier discovered that if i mash the accelerator and then turn the key to "start" for 10 or so seconds then mash in the cluth and start her up that she will actually START to idle, but then if you don't continuously give it gas and rev it will just die down and shut off. anyone know any particular or related causes to this? and the neighborhood of how much it might cost to repair?

upon further tampering with the car, i found that I could masterfully get it to idle after playing with the accelerator long enough and letting the engine get a certain temperature. however, after this I noticed a distinct burnt kind of smell when i got out of the car. also I noticed when depressing the clutch and releasing the clutch it would make a strange kind of winding noise, and that can't be good. might these two be related? any help is great. thankyaaa

Sounds like you got problems with various clutch cylinders and/or master cylinders... replace those and check your lines as well.
As far as starting up goes, your fuel pump may not be running very well.
Have a look at all grounds and electrical equipment as well.
Basically, you've got just about everything above a rebuild on your hands... Take care and good luck!
