People often don't like and fear what they don't understand. Viva la Ignorance!

Tell us why you don't like rotaries...

the only rotary's i've had are 3 abused rx-7's....so they all run like ****...and out of the 3, they all need to be rebuilt, so i'm not to impressed.

i understand rotary's just fine, but they don't hold up for **** and can't take abuse. a v-8 will take abuse, and will hold up.... so while you're sitting there thinking you're such a smart *****, like you obviously seem to think you are...i'll be dusting you with my v-8 powered rex, viva la ignorance! *******.

With 500 rwhp, and a 3 rotor in the works, I doubt your car will be "dusting" mine. Besides, you'll be driving an automatic. How lame is that! My MOM drives an auto. Not to mention your car won't handle or brake... sorry dude, outta your league here.

Tell me how your 300 hp engine is going to dust my 500 hp engine, considering you'll have an extra 200-400 lbs on me?

Actually, I've got nothing against V-8's, if they're done right. You are NOT doing it right. A V-8 swap takes three things: money, time, and a lot of planning. Expecting to just be able to slap a big engine into a rex for $20 is describable only as stupid. Your car will be a failure of the highest caliber, with a gaping hole in the hood, a rear axle mounted directly to the body, and an engine "massaged" into place via a 20 lb sledge.

You said yourself you've only owned abused cars... Maybe you should fix the problems and then take care of the car. I drive the hell out of my car, but I also follow routine maintenance to keep it running properly.

BTW, you misspelled "too".

Call me a "smart *****", but at least I can pass garde 2 spelling.

THREE bad RX-7s?!

You were duped. several times.

I can understand getting ONE bad rotary, MAYBE two, but THREE?

You must not be thinking things thorough very well before you act.

As a matter of fact, If I take the logic of putting the engine that you are suggessting into a '7, and then couple that with the fact that you had been sold THREE bad RX-7s...

I think its self explanatory why/how you got crappy cars.

I must conclude that you have "Birthday Fever" pretty badly.

I.E. You see somthing, want it/ do it /get it right away.

Please sell your '7s and let a mechanically inclined, more level headed person fix it.

The idea of that engine in a '7 reminds me of someone putting a rock in a sock and watching them throw it.

NOSE HEAVY.

You might drive "ok" on dry roads at first, but that first wet, rainly day comes along and stand by for a truely ballistic experience.

The first turn you try to take at almost any speed will send you straigt into whatever you were turning away from.

You might want to put a laser sight on the hood just so that you can have SOME fun guessing the accuracy of your hit on that building ahead.

It'll be very similar to those smart missile videos we have all seen from Iraq.

(Try to hit a window, that would be cool looking)

If I had a BFC engine (big ummmm.. FREAKIN, yeah that's it... Cadillac) I'd find an old hearse in a junkyard and make an interesting toy...

In the long run it will cost you more to get all the framework to hold that crap in done and then all the fabrication for your driveshaft and transmission mounts or possibly rear end too. I would go with a rebuilt 13b anyday of the week or probally mega streetported for speed and half bridge for more torque but thats just me

I can understand the abuse crap cause you can not put coolant and oil in and run the **** out of it and it will still run i tired to kill a piston engine on time and it still ran with 1 jug of coolant and 2 quarts of oil...if that is what you call abuse...if your talking about taking a car to redline and or trying to catch 2nd and torqueing your car an rx7 can defenitely take that. People that dont know jack about an rx7 and then jump into them thinking oh hell i dont need oil i dont need coolant are the people that **** me off its people like that that are buying up some of the last very good condition rx7s and just jacking them all up Its a shame...

alright i didn't buy 3 rx-7's and have them have bad engines, i bought an '83, then i traded for an '87 and an '86... they all run, but the '87 has bad seals, the '86 well...that engine might be ok, i don't know, haven't tried it, but it has 130000 miles... and the '83 might be ok too, if i could get the radiator out of the waterpump.. (deer can do some amazing ****)

oh and wow scathcart, making fun of someone for mispelling `too` and saying `to` holy **** you're pulling out the big guns there little man!

and once i'm done with the car, then you can all criticize and say what you like.... think of it this way...lots of cheap rx-7 parts for sale by me! cause i don't want em.. tranny's, engine cores, etc... :p

if someone REALLY doesn't want me to do this swap..buy the car off me ahah... it has a sweet dual exhaust on it (sounds very unique, not like any car i've heard) well till the car overheats from a bad water seal..

My friend has a 75 coupe deville and in no way does it put out 300hp. I am not saying it couldnt, but that would cost money. And if you have to spend money on it to make it fast, that defeats the purpose of your project. In the end I agree with what everyone else has said, it would be a million times cheaper to just rebuild what you have, even if you were to leave the motor stock. And for a daily driver it would be much more practical to keep the rotary. 500s get horrible gas mileage, especially compared to an n/a rotary with will in most cases double the figures of the caddy 500. I also have nothing against v8 swaps, but this one just dosent make sense.

Its called addition.
Stock hp rating (200), plus around 20 hp (conservative) for mods (ported motor, exhaust, intake, 10 psi), and then an extremely large nitrous shot.

200hp + 20 hp + 280 hp= 500
Jetted in 120 first stage, and 40 hp shots in each port.

Stock turbo overspooling to 15 psi, attempting to add extra fuel by over-jetting fuel solenoid on shots. Not the best method, by any means, but I was leaving for two months when I tried that shot size, and I am replacing the motor (and turbo, which I am sure is now shot) when I get home, so I figured it was fine to have some fun.

Stupid (and expensive) way to have fun, but its my car and I can break it any way I wish. I will find out at what hp the engine cracks.

I have videos of the run, but they are on a camcorder, and I need to have them converted to digital videos so I can post them.

I'm sorry as well.
(hug now?)
In all honesty, I've got nothing against throwing a super'd, stroked, aluminum headed 302 or the likes into a rex. But most people don't realize to do a swap properly, and not have it look and drive horribly, it costs money.

I'm a huge supporter of Jimlab's project. I am not a supporter of throwing an engine into a car for as cheap as possible and expecting it to run right.

You may wanna try throwing it into a fox-body mustang (I wanna throw a stroked, nitroused, and turbo'd 460 into a fox-body). They handle big engines muchj easier, and already have the axle set-up.

If you get it done, lemme know, but at this point, I'm going to stick with: Its not a good idea, and its not gonna work.

This whole thread is stupid. We have one idiot whining how rotary engines are "no good", even after he admits to buying/trading one with a bad engine, one which he hasen't started, and one that hit a deer (again, not started).

We have someone else using "ricer addition" to get a RWHP rating...

Where's ReTED when you need him?

Its a realistic horsepower estimate. What do you rate your car at? The stock 146 hp?

OK fine, since I haven't gone to the dyno, I've got a 200 hp flywheel hp engine. No more than that, since I can't prove it with a dyno sheet.
Tell me what's wrong with my estimate. An automotive magazine recently did testing using a 75 hp WET NOS jetting, and received a 73.2 hp rwhp increase.
Tell me what you estimate a 1990 TII with ported engine, full exhaust, intake, TB mod, ported intake manifold, no emissions, no accessories, and 10 psi. I think 220 rwhp is right on the money.
Tell me what you think 280 hp jetting of nitrous will make to the rear.

Sometimes you can use math. With nitrous oxide, you're not just guessing on how much horsepower you're going to make, such as with the addition of pullies, or TB mod. I'm not making assumptions like the TB mod adding 4 hp, or my removed FTP lenses adding 10 hp.

Those are realistic numbers. Tell me why they're not, as I'd like to have a realistic estimate.

You're right. That many cubes should make gobs more power.

However, this engine was produced shortly after the introduction of emmissions. I think those numbers are correct, IIRC.
