Engine Swap????
Engine Swap????
I was wondering how hard it will be and how many problems I will have if I swapped a 1991 Rx7 Turbo engine into a 1988 N/A.. I can order one of the internet for $1000 with ECU and tranny. How long will it take and how much should I plan on spending.
I am getting a 20-30k settlement from a car accident I had a while ago. Will it pass emissions also??
What is the redline on that engine.

You may wish to also get a '90/91 engine/front/emissions harness as well as the connectors and injector set up will be different (as well as if the engine is a Jspec, those harnesses are typically cut off at the firewall).
In CA there is a loop hole in the emissons law that allows the same or later model year engines to be subsituted in older bodies (such as what you are proposing), but the car must now meet the engine year specs for emissons rather than the body year. I am not aware of the UT requirements so its hard to say, but as rule of thumb if it can pass in CA it can pass anywhere in the world (as CA has the toughest emission requirements in the world).
As to how long it will take, depends on who is doing the work and how familiar they are with the RX-7. It has taken me about three days to put my series 4 T2 motor/tranny/drive shaft into a 88 'vert mostly by myself, but I am adding wires and changing a few connectors to keep from replacing the harness completely. But in all fairness, it would have taken a lot less if I was doing it in a shop and without distractions that one gets working in ones garage. I am also replacing minor stuff like heater hoses, brake master, a headlamp assembly and stuff like that.

you have no replies because this question has been answered already. do a search for TURBO CONVERSION or ENGINE SWAP or DIFFERENCES if u want to know all the problems associated with doing this.
