Need some help!

87 na, Fresh engine, new fuel filter, here's the problem...

About 18 miles from a cold start, the engine started a short cut out and pick back up (about 1 sec.). This is at about 70 mph, interstate driving. This has worsened to a very rough run condition about 50% of the time. It will happen at any speed, accel, deccel, or constant speed, even idling at a stoplight. Coming in town after a road speed run, it seems to lessen a bit, but when back up to road speed after a short time it's the same.

I'm thinking I have a problem with the egr valve, as this seems to be exhaust heat related to me. I have already disconnected the vacuum hose to it to shut it off, but it made no difference.

I'm getting ready to pull the upper intake to get at the valve unless this deal rings a bell with somebody and it's something else.

Please respond soon, have to drive it 38 mi. to work tomorrow!

Well, huh.

5 have read, but no replies, while I r&r'd the uppr intake and blocked off the egr.

Goin' for a test drive, be back in about an hour. I'l let you know.

 

Just got back from a 50i. flog on the interstate, and glad to report all symptoms are gone. It's so nice to be right for once. Now I can mow the yard.
