engine strugling after alt. install

so i installed a 3rd gen alt into my car the other day and it has been acting strange ever sence. when i start the car it starts up fine but if i hit the bas before the engine is warm it will sputer and bog down and almost die then rev up. but after it warms up it is fine. and today i was driving it and shifted hard from first to second and it bogged down and the revs droped then shot back up again. did the same into 3rd. i tryed adjusting the tps and changed it out for a spare i had but the problem w/ start up still happened and the problem on the top end just started today. some one tell me what wrong w/ my baby!!
1987 base btw

Maybe the alternator is putting too much drag on the motor at low rpm's. Have you tried your old one to see if the problem still exists?
