Engine Starting/Running logic

Hi Guys,

Have tried to search for a thread that would shed some light on the sequence of events (control logic) that takes place for the TII FC 88' but could not find anything that put it all together. If anyone has a link to a thread like that it would be great.

I realize this is a big question, but I am trying to wrap my head around the control logic of the engine/car from starting to running.

May be to much to ask but if there was such a thing. Wow....that would go a long way into understanding the car!

I have certain understandings now of how individual parts work and there purpose but have a hard time linking them together.

Call me crazy if you will........

there are links to the factory service manual in the FAQ section of this forum...you should be able to find any info you need there.

Basically when you turn the key to on the Main relay sends voltage to the coils, fuel injectors, emission solenoids, ECU and various engine sensors as well as the Circuit Opening relay which helps to govern the fuel pump. With the key to start the ECU receives a start signal at the start signal pin which relays this signal to the Circuit Opening relay to provide the relay with more information regarding how the relay controls the fuel pump to start the car. The ECU then also takes a measurement from various coolant sensors so it knows whether to inject a little fuel into the engine to start it up or a lot of fuel (Water Thermosensor). Another coolant sensor then tells the ECU if the coolant is at the proper temp or not to invoke the 3000 rpm rev startup or not. The starter which cranks the engine then helps to rotate the wheel of the CAS which then tells the ECU when the injectors are to inject and when the plugs should fire as the ECU sends these signals to the injectors as well as the spark plugs. The AFM flap opens upon startup and then helps to provide a ground signal to the Circuit Opening relay which allows the fuel pump to continue running after startup as well as control the air to fuel mixture necessary to run the engine under various conditions.
