Engine sound w/ bad seal Question
Hi Guys,
I am helping out a friend's stock '89 TII...He thinks his car has a bad seal because he heard some ticking while racing some guy and now he fears that the engine may have detonated and took the seal. I am doubting it because his car idles fine and seems to rev okay, but it is just flat in power (just my opinion compared to my car; I have never driven his car before yesterday). Other than getting a compression test, what does the engine sound like w/
1. A bad Apex seal? Will there be idle problem or rev problems?
2. A bad corner seal? Will there be idle problem or rev problems?
Can any shop do a compression test? Or does it have to be a rotary shop (hard to find around here)?
Thanks in advance...
Jay

Check the rear propeller on the turbo. Remember that the car uses the front rotor to start, so if it is blown in the rear it will still start. I blew all 3 apex seals on the rear, fucked the housing up, fucked the rear of the turbo and it woul still start. It could also be a bent apex seal. If I were him I would open the engine.
