Engine seized? Planning swap have a few ??'s

1986 rx7 na low impedance injectors

So I started my car after work in the cold and it started revved up to 2 grand and made a grinding noise and stalled and now starter just clicks.

At first I though the starter was messed so I replaced it and same thing. I noticed smoke coming from the positive wire to starter to. So being -20 I sent it to crappy tire hoping it was something dumb I missed. To my displeasure they told me it was seized and now I'm thinking I popped a seal and it sezied the engine. However I have not looked at it since being a little disappointed because the same day I got laid off from my job (merry christmas) lol.

Well I have another s4 engine that has been outside for a few months under a tarp.
The questions I have is that the extra engine I have has all sensors on it and transmission and junk an am wondering if I can leave all that on to drop in the engine.

Also being that the engine was outside under tarp is there any preventive maintenance I should be think of doing. Also the owner of the engine aSsured me its fine and only reason he was selling is his rx7 got in acxident which was true. And he had clutch and stuff done 10k ago.

This will be my first engine swap and have nothing but time right now so any info u guys could spare would be great

Try to use all your old known good parts while doing the swap. I didn't and its been costing me way more than I've wanted to put into it at this time.

That's a little iffy too the old engine had idle probls and terrible gas mileage(and I've had three rx7s and by far the worst) and some hesitation problems. The guy I got the engine from said it ran great for him and I'm hoping to get it running mint I got my old 84 rx7 to dd in the mean time

Just take your time doing the swap. If you want to use the new stuff keep your old stuff around till the swap is done at least. Get some new gaskets, spark plugs fuel hose and just stuff like that. I always like putting in new hoses and thermostat to.

Go ahead and replace all the vac lines with the nicer ones the Oem ones will crack and can ruin your rebuild

Well I took the uim off and vacuum rack and cleaned everything then replaced all the lines.

I noticed the the ecu ground was bolted to the vacuum rack so I cleaned all the metal that it was connected too and used some dielectric grease.

Also the wiringing harness on the newer engine has high impedance injectors and my car had low imp. I'm wondering since I'm replacing ecu and engine what do I do with all the wires at the resistor box..... Will I be able to rip them out

Is there anything else that I should be sure to double check before I drop this sucker in

If you use the high imp harness you will be fine with any ecu as long as you run the high imp injectors.if you are gonna use your existing low imp harness swap out the injectors for the low imp and leave the resistor box in place.all 86-88 ecu are high imp but in early s4's they had the resistor box in place for the low imp injectors.

Yes I will be swapping the harness too and I might as well use the ecu that came with it too.

Plan is to have the old engine and tranny out tonight and have the newer ones in. It seems pretty simplistic so far unhook everything that attaches to the engine And the put it back the same way lol

Radiator and components
Oil fuel and coolant hoses as well as vacuum
Power steering
Cas and alt wiring as well as tranny wires
Exhaust as well as heat shields
Afm and tb tube
And the hood

Well got the old stuff out.
About the drive shaft.. We pulled the tranny right out of the drive shaft without disconnecting from the diff.
What's the best way to go about putting the new tranny and driveshaft together
