engine screeching

I just did the first part of unflooding engine (steps until atf trick) and the first cycle of 20 seconds went smoothly, lots of gas fumes came out. The second time, i turned the key and engine started making this horrible screeching sound, so i stopped immediately. Im assuming this means engine is unflooded, but now im worried i might have fucked up an apex seal. any input would be appreciated.

It is the engine, and not a belt pulley? You would know if the apex was gone because the car would run like crap and sound like an old VW beetle

didnt sound like a belt, but it was in the drivers seat, so the sound could have been distorted.

Oh, the car wasn't running yet? Could it have been your starter slipping?

im not sure, i waited a good 10 minutes in between the first time cranking and the second time cracking, so the starter motor could cool down, the starter was in surprisingly good condition when i checked it when it wasnt on the car, so i would hope it isnt slipping
