Unhappy engine rotates, but won't start- air pump??

A few months ago I removed the air pump. About the same time the car has slowly had more and more trouble starting (taking more rotations to start, sometimes acting like it is flooded.) I know the EGI comp fuse removal trick to clear flooded engines, but that didn't help. Slowly it has gotten worse and now it just rotates and rotates. Could this be related to removing the air pump? If so, what did it affect? Foul spark plugs?

I've put the air pump back on and am trying to get on the road again.

Hm, one guess is that your cats were slowly clogging maybe?

How would taking off the air pump for a couple months plug up the cat's? I can't get it started to take it to my muffler/brake place. I'm trying to get it working so that I can take it for my state inspection....they'll know I cut off the cat's.

The airpump "pumps" clean air into the exhaust to burn cleaner, if your cats already are ditry that extra "more dirty" air might totally clog them.
