Personally I like doing them both at the same time.
The reason is that you won't damage any of the clutch components or the pilot bearing taking the whole thing out.
It's only about 5 extra minutes anyways to disconnect the driveshaft and exhaust(y pipe) from the mufflers.
Pull the shifter.
When you take the trans mount bolts off (cross member),take the cross member off the trans.I find it easy that way,you can guide the whole thing out.
