engine problem!

I was driving today and as I was normally driving ( not even 50% throttle) all the sudden my car started seriously bogging out and it sounded like I had a bad exhaust leak, I put my clutch in and coasted to a stop in a parking lot and it was idling insanely roughly. My dad came down to check it out, started it up and said its missing on one rotor ( or so he thinks, he doesnt know rotarys worth **** and constantly asks me why i bought a 7), what i wanted to know was, what does it sound like and what happens when you lunch an apex seal? i doubt thats what i did becuase i coudlnt here any grinding or anything and my dad drove my car home gingerly. I've yet to pull the spark plugs and see if i maybe cracked the porcelain on one or someshit but I just need some imput please
thanks
btw, i stopped at canadian tire to get spark plugs, went to the parts counter and said i need two NGK BUR7EQ's and two BUR9EQ's and the guy says, those are discontinued and we cant order them, is he on crack or do I really have to go to mazda for freakin spark plugs? ( my dealer is about an hour away )

how can i check compression with a standard pump? do I not need a rotary compression test? or can it be done with a normal one?
what spark plug hole would I hook it up to?

you can use a regular piston tester- but what you might want to do first is just pull the upper (trailing) plugs, one at a time, pull the EGI fuses from the fuse block in the engine compartment, and crank the engine for a couple of seconds- listen for three even "pusch" sounds, then do the other rotor...if it's blown, you'll be able to tell from the different sounds...
