Question Engine Injection 40A Fuse Blowout

I have a problem where one day while driving my fc just died and i pulled over to the side of the road and tried to start it again. It just cranked and it sounded like when i have the 40A fuse out for flooding fixes so i checked the fuse and it was blown sure enough. So i get a ride to an auto store and get a new one and when i put that one it it immediately gets fried also.

I am almost clueless when it comes to electrical problems and was wondering if there is any way for me to fix this myself or at least get it running so i can transport it to my regular auto shop. Thanks.

Well I can say I'm 99% sure that there is a short somewhere. Follow the wiring harness and look for obvious things like it being melted through or anything like that. After that its gonna get a lot more in depth and I couldn't give you a good starting point.

Look at the series four non turbo wiring schematics and you can see it feeds the fuel injectors and the coils, both lead and trail coil assys. It passes thru the Main Relay before doing that.

It's a black/green wire as it leaves the engine bay fuse box headed to the Main Relay, and leaves the Main Relay as a black/yellow wire and goes to each coil assy and also to the fuel injector plugs. On a early 87 it won't go to the fuel injectors plugs but stops off at the solenoid resistor package located below the air filter assy.

Main relay/fuel injector plugs/ coil assy's can be located by looking in the free, online FSM or factory service manual. FSM can be downloaded from the FAQ thread at the beginning of this site.
