Hey guys, im trying to get my engine harness out of my 1987 rx-7 na to make room for a tII version. Well to say the least im having some problems, how much of the harness do I need to take out to support tII? Im trying to pull the dash out but that a whole problem in its self. Does any one have pictures of a harness being pulled out. I will try to get some pictures of my progress tomorrow (dark right now) any info can help thank you for your help.

Stop. Seriously.

Do a search, and read the FAQ. You shouldn't be pulling your dash, and you shouldn't be replacing your GXL engine/"emissions" harness.

 

The dashboard. You are doing way too much man.

If you put a Turbo engine in a non turbo car, you leave all the original non turbo wiring in place and do NOT use a Turbo EM harness at all.

You may THINK you want to use the Turbo instrument cluster because it has a boost gauge, but the stock boost gauge is SUSPECT, so do not do that. By keeping the stock na instrument cluster you keep the volt gauge which is a plus. The Turbo cluster has no volt gauge.

Volt gauge = usefull Boost gauge= suspect/not accurate.

Yeah thanks guys I got the harness out. So I cant just drop the turbo ecu harness in the car?

 

No. The EM harness that goes on the engine has different pinouts and will not mate with the non turbo Front harness unless you make several wire changes in the turbo EM harness plugs so it will mate with the non turbo front harness plugs.

It would have been simpler to use the stock non turbo harnesses and just extend the TPS wires to reach the turbo's TPS.

The two major plugs that are different on the two EM harness are ORANGE in color and are called X-15 and X-16. As shown in the jpgs, the wires with the ( ) around them are peculiar to the turbo EM harness and will NOT mate with the wires in the non turbo half of the Front part of the plugs.

That's as far as I care to go with this.

 

Now that you've got your EM harness out, go ahead and put it back.
