Engine Fan ??
I was thinking about changing out the stock fan on my 90 GTU, and going with a Black Magic Fan.
Are there any problems associated with removing the fanclutch and fan assembly that I should know.
Thanks

Nope, removing that stuff is fairly simple and straight-forward. I've got a Black Magic for mine as well, and install was not hard (light fabricating, but nothing major that you could not do in an everyday garage).

if you are thinking about going to an electric fan (and i dont care if i get flamed, because i like mine) then i recommend it. it clears up the engine bay drastically, and if done properly, it will cool most adequately.
you just have to do it properly.
make sure you have a higher output alternator, or at the VERY LEAST, be sure your charging system is in excellent order.
try a search for electric fans.. im sure theres a few threads kicking around about how everyone has done theirs.

USE THE BRACKETS THAT COME WITH IT. do NOT use nylon straps.
Ensure the thermostat is working properly before you take it for a rip and risk serious damage.
it's a good fan, but alot of the parts are cheaply made (thermostat, weatherstripping). It's finally working, but its ignition controlled for now. I am just waiting for a replacement thermostat
Good luck!

You will not gain back any HP, and you will loose cooling capability (compaired to stock), as well in some cases overload the stock charging system and increase the aerodynamic drag.

No, the stock fan is not broken, but she overheated on me a couple of days ago, and I can't seem to locate the reason behind it, cooling levels, oil, all OK, so I thought that either upgrading or adding another fan might help.
This is my first summer with my GTU, so I am not to sure what to expect , she has been great so far....ran through a couple of so called hondas from the 2F2F crowd, and they just would not leave the old man alone, so I pist-on them, and they left me alone. (Could not keep up....)
The fan was just a thought...I will still gather more knowledge before I make any changes.
Thanks

Jazzman, look for another source. If a fan clutch is bad, you will know. Try this... warm up your car... let it idle...
shut it off... try spinning the fan manually by "launching" it... it should not spin more than half a rotation. if it does, your fan clutch is bad.
Does it overheat in traffic, or on the highway... or when you're in high rpms... or what?

You are right to consider an e-fan.
The stock fan clutch works great for about 100,000 miles, but then gradually starts slipping, and is >$180 to relace.
I am using salvage fan from a Tarus $10..
Generic pre-set thermostat $20..
No overheating worries - priceless..

If you over heated and the stock fan is working correctly, then you must fix the cooling system.
