Engine failure! You gotta see this!

Look at why my engine failed. Yup oil pump. What the hell. I've never seen this in a rotary. Whole engine is toast. Looking for a gd core now.

Something make its way into the pump?

If the motor was shut down at the first sign of oil pressure loss if might have been salvageable.

You can turn your phone sideways for better pictures/screenshots too.

Rotary Performance sent me these and posted them on their FB page. Chris said he had never seen something like this since he has been doing rotaies.

Pretty damn rare. My whole engine is not rebuildable.

I havent heard of that before on a rotary, although I have heard of oil pump failure from excessive rpm's on boingers. How far have you revved that thing in the past(not that it should matter).

Eww, hmm.... I want to say something made it's way into the oil-pump which would be strange. Did you still have the grate on the oil-pick up?

I had a broken oil pump on a 1st gen engine. The outer gear was broken in two pieces. I found a few chunks of gasket in the oil galley. One was partially blocking the front stationary gear. And the oil was black and it stained everything. Whoever owned this engine before me wasn't the careful type.

Chris at RP seems to think it was put back together with worn out main bearings.

I hear that. My oil looked like it had diamonds in it.
