Engine drinks oil like a frat boy shotguns a beer

On my way to work yesterday, I took one of those 90 degree corners that seem to be so common around intersections. Midway through the corner, the "low oil level" light went off and the "catastrophic explosion impending" buzzer went off. I nearly shat my pants and my mouth went completely dry. There's NO way my car could break down, that would just be utterly ridiculous. Well, as soon as I straightened the car out, the buzzing stopped and the light went off. I unclenched my anus a little bit and putted along to work. After choosing a spot in the parking lot, I checked the oil. Well, needless to say, the level sure as hell wasn't within any tolerable range. I anxiously awaited my break time so I could give my local rotary shop a call and see what was up. They said that I was probably low on oil (well duh) and I arranged for a time that I could go to the shop and pick me up some oil.

I left work early and noted the odometer read at about 124,100 miles. I remembered my last oil change (as a result of a blown oil cooler line) was in the high 122,000s. Turns out that my car had burned 2 quarts of oil in the 1200-1300 miles that it was driven since my lines exploded. So I paid the 26 bucks for 3 quarts and went on my merry way.

2 quarts!!!! They said I only had minor oil leaks as well, nothing that could cause such a large guzzling of the oil. My engine is a gluttonous bastard. Car is a 1989 turbo II.

It only smokes a little bit after driving for a long time in very hot (90+F) temperatures. It's not from the exhaust, and I've always assumed that it was the heat from the motor burning all of the bits of leaking fluid and such that are around my rather gross engine bay.

I won't quote you on an exact amount, but every other time I go to Wal-Mart I pick up a gallon of Castrol. When I pull the dipstick out to check the level at gas fill up, the oil is so clean its hard to find exact level.

My point: I have a super lead foot, I don't drive 35 mph unless it is parked, redline is daily due to she likes it, no leaks, minor smoke occasionally, and the OMP does its job. I probably go through a gallon a month, 10 bucks is cheap to drive the ROTARY MASTERPIECE.

1000 miles a quart? That would be heaven, but when I am dead, the car might use that small amount.

PEACE THE DOG and stop driving it like an 80 year old NUN!

Turbonut, doing great my friend. Getting a big fat check from previous employer tomorrow, for , money owed me, enough to buy another vert, and still bribe the next judge. hehehe.

Seriously though, I couldn't give the exact amount, but I bought the for my son, and considering the way I drive it, the mileage on it, almost 160, 000, compression is 105 on the rotars, ten dollars a month is equal to 4 oil changes a year. Hummmmmmm, now, am I really using that much oil, or does it just seem that way? Simple economics, 3000 miles, 4 times a year, 12, 000 miles a year? Any daily driver of any vehicle travel less than that on average? It's good to be back guys!!!!!!!

PEACE THE DOG

It takes practice. just get a shitty tasting beer that you don't mind shotgunning.

As for the oil level, that seems about right. I go through about that much and I use Castrol GTX 20W50. I wouldn't worry to much about it.

Liquor > Beer.

1000 miles a quart? That would be heaven, but when I am dead, the car might use that small amount.
Is that healthy?
