engine builders, end play. Help!!!
Hey guys, to make a long story short. I screwed up my needle bearings and bearing races and plates on my s5 engine. Luckily I have a blown s4 engine I used parts from.
Now I tried setting end play with all my s4 parts except s5 spacer, and I have 0 endplay. I torqued front bolt to 90ft lbs
The only part differnt is the very first bearing race that slides in. The one that sits closest to the engine up agains the stationary gear. I noticed it wasnt as big of a diamter as my s5 one. The s5 one filled the whole area fitting snug inside the front of the gear, while the s4 one barely was enough to let the bearing ride. I did not get to measure the thickness because I didnt have my calipers on me, and I threw away the bad one.
1)anyone know of this differnt sized front bearing race?
2)Since i torqued it to 90ft lbs and there was no endplay, do you think I need new needle bearings?

thanks guys. I already ordered the new bearings, and I bought the biggest spacer available, hopefully I will see some end play from that.
I talked to one shop, they said there were 2 differnt sized washers available, but when I called mazdatrix and the dealer, they only offered one for s4 and s5. BTW the colored guy that works in parts at Alhambra mazda doesnt like to help me out. Screw them!
I talked to another shop, and they said it might have been a 3rd gen washer, but he was also saying I would have to use 3rd gen bearings and stationary gear.
Oh well, im getting the parts so everything will b ok with my engine. Im still curious though.
Anyone know of this mysterious washer with a bigger diamter that completely fits the stationary gear circle?

For a while I was looking at my s4 parts bin looking for the front washer because I thougth it was bigger in diameter like the one I pulled from my s5 engine. I finally figured out which one it was on my s4 engine because of that chamfer they put on it, and it was just big enough for the bearing to ride on
I kept everything from the s5 engine like like counterweight and shim, which measured .316" . I am jsut guessing that front washer was thicker than the one from my s4 engine that I put on. I threw it away on sunday, monday was trash day, and I wanted to measure it on tuesday when I had this issue, but it was gone.
