Exclamation Engine blown in 88 RX-7 convertible

I pm'd ragtop but I can't wait. Maybe I should just sell the car. I have a 1988 RX-7 convertible, 5 speed, stock. The car has been sitting since July of 2000 because it blue smoke rolls out when you start and has no power. Car only has 90,000 miles on it and when it ran I loved it. I have 0 mechanical capabilities (no garage, tools, etc.) Since the car has been sitting, someone sliced the top so the leather interior is ruined too. How much is this all gonna cost and is the car worth it? My only compaint with the car before this was that it looked a lot faster than it was. What can I do about this (cheaply) if I decide to replace the engine. Thanks, Todd

Oh yeah, I'm in Fort Wayne, IN if anyone knows of a good shop.

Try Kevin for the engine. I thought he was re-building for around $1000, but you will want to check with him.

As far as the interior, there was a post yesterday about new leather for the seats for $350 a pair. A front carpet kit is around $150 (depending on where you shop) and a rear roof panel from around $350 up (again depending on where you get it from).

To do the work, you are looking at probably around another $1000 if you pay someone (rough guess off the top of my head based on cost in CA).

If you sell it not running like you describe it is not worth more than $1200 or so. Maybe if your lucky and there are not any other 'verts or Miatas in your area, you might get $1500, as you describe.

Thanks for the reply. So basically about $1850 for the top and interior.

What about the engine? Anyone here in Fort Wayne, IN? What about Atkins Rotary? Good or Bad? And performance mods?

ooops

Wow, leather does nasty things when ya leave it out. not to mention the puddles in the carpet, and the mildew.. I dont know about where you are, but you get something like that and the inside is just useless here in Florida.( not to mention the rust thing ) .. I dont really see how you could sell it for much with a messed up motor , and a ruined interior. But I am just being negative too.

boo

Just pull the carpet....it was probably crappy before the top was sliced anyway. The 88 tops leak...they fixed it in 89. Spray down a nice rubber undercarriage on the floor...if you do it right it looks nice. Can do wonders for noise suppression, too. Plus, if you give your drunk friends a ride home and they hurl all over the interior of it, its hella easy to clean up! Ask me how I know...

Damn I need a new top too.....I've seen replacement tops on the internet...anybody ever try one of those non-factory tops?
