JB weld is evil! If you saw flakes of JB weld in your engine, it was not supposed to be there and probably caused the engine to die. Nothing but threaded plugs should go in the open rod holes. Tap the holes, install the plugs with red loctite and grind the ends of them flush and smooth with the inside of the throttle body.

 

BDC did my TBody about a year ago....i open the TBody up every once anda while...still looks fine around the JBWeld, of course he has his own methods of doing things, and he doesnt just fill the hole with JBWeld.

 

JB Weld is fine if you mix it properly. My TB is fine and has had JB Weld in it since April.

 

As landers said... the jb weld didn't do any damage

I feel badly for and with you Rico. i dropped a nut into my front exhaust port when I first put my header on, killing the entire front rotor and housing. now I am rebuilding the engine due to my own stupidity.

 

if u jus take out the throttle plates and coolant flowing thru the TB and idle cam, cant u jus put back that square thing over the hole that was there in the 1st place?

I think you all got it twisted. It wasnt RICO who did the 6 port jb weld experiment. IT wasnt RICO's motor that I got in trade. IT was the 6 port JB weld motor from one of the BUC members (as in augusta down south Blow-em Up Crew)

Hey, weird question Kevin. I found an 89 GTU w/ 58K on a mazda rebuild (yuck) how much would a rebuild and street port run me? I assume as much as any other rebuild you do?

 

Good news is you dont have to worry about paying extra or finding spare rotor/housings due to apex seal damage. Standard pricing of $1000 for basic rebuild plus $200 for SP'ing applies, adn shipping would be between $80 and $150 each way, I do require your core to build from.

 

You don't need to remove the thermowax as part of this mod. The #2 secondary plates, shaft and linkages can all be removed with the cold-idle system left intact and working perfectly. I did mine this way and have improved throttle response and a nice idle when cold. Well worth it.

I wasn't convinced about filling the shaft hole with epoxy, so I threaded it and used a stainless steel bolt with thread lock.

If the JB-Weld is mixed, applied, and cured properly, there's no chance in the world that engine vacuum or forced induction boost pressure will loosen this stuff. It's literally 'cold weld'. It's used to seal engine blocks and fuel tanks; it's *extremely* strong stuff.

The TB mods I do employ the use of brass plugs plus JB-Weld (as a metal filler). Of the 20 or so I've done, including the one I did of my own over 5 years ago when I had no clue what I was doing, not one single one has had "JB-Weld flake off". It just won't do it. I have to sand the stuff down after I let it cure for 24 hours prior to doing the modification inside the TB; that's how hard it becomes.

Rico, I feel for you, man. I really hope it wasn't foreign object entry that damaged the engine. But, unless the JB-Weld wasn't mixed properly or didn't have time to cure before being applied, then I doubt that's the culprit. If it were, and it merely 'flaked' off, then it'd suggest that perhaps it's too weak to damage anything if it's indeed too weak to even adhere to itself. Anyways, I hope you get it fixed and going soon, mate.

There is no direct correlation between the TB Mod itself, except for the fact that there could be a case for failing epoxy compound.&nbsp This is the reason I use a drill/tap/plug in the write-up.
