I use simple green, it works well for me. I rinse with a bottle of water, so as not to spray water over everything at once (electrical stuff), or a wet rag for rinsing.

Use Simple green diluted 50:1 on a COLD engine. Make sure you have some brushes (you can get by on a wheel brush and toothbrush).

Don't use strong streams of water and keep your water source moving, don't keep spraying one area constantly.

Wrap any delicate wiring/electronics with aluminum foil - it takes shape easily and keeps water out.

The entire job should take about an hour.

My favourite method is Castrol Super Clean and a stiff bristle brush. I initially apply the Super Clean full strength and then use the brush to remove all the hard stuff. After rinsing and letting it dry, I then dilute the Super Clean a little and use the brush again. Then repeat until clean.

^^^^ Word, that is the same stuff I use. I am pretty liberal about washing the bay. I use a pressure washer. i just cover what I do not want wet. After, I follow up with my compressor to air dry it as to not leave any water spots.
