engine from an automatic into my manual

I finally found a good used engine that should be a perfect fit. But I have to take it out of a car with an automatic transmission. Is that a problem? Is there a lot more work involved? Is there any difference in the engines? If I'm paying to have it done, how much extra should I expect to pay for this?

Do it yourself itll be better for you in the long run. And you are doing exactly what I am doing right now. Biggest difference is the rear counter wieght. You can do 1 of 2 thing that I know of here.

use the stock rear counter wieght and a lightened Aftermarket flywheel

or you can use you stock flywheel instead.

There is also a couple different things that Ted answered in my post about a week ago, just search my name and look for it and he lists alot of the things.

Yeah, the engine you are pulling will have a flex plate and a torque converter. You will need to replace that with a clutch and pressure plate assembly. Also, the engine will not have a pilot bearing and seal so you will need to buy and install that too. The bearing and seal shouldn't be more than $15 combined. Aftermarket flywheels will need to removable counterweight that is installed on to flex plate, so hold on the counterweight. Those flywheels can be upwards of $250. You can find a used stock flywheel in the "For Sale" section of this forum for $50 or less. Then for another few dollars, you local machine shop can turn it and smooth off the friction surface so it will be good as new. Clutch kits (OEM and high-pro) can be found on ebay, mazdatrix.com and other sites.

I can't do it myself! everytime I try to do something myself, in the long run, I end up spending more than if I had just taken it to a shop in the first place. I stripped a spark plug! How much should it cost? Are automatics 5 speeds? I know that probably sounds stupid but I can't believe that an automatic Tercel could possably be a 5 speed.

The RX-7 trannys have 4 speed w/over drive. What are you asking about the spark plug? How much is a new one or how much to get the stripped one out of the hole?
