Endless starting isshes

So many issues

My partner and I bought a project car together, a 1986 RX7. We both enjoy Mazdas and knew that it would require some work, but the guy we got it from didn’t seem to have any trouble, and now it seems everytime we fix something, something else goes wrong. The engine died when I stalled out the other day, and since then we’ve replaced the starter, the alternator, and the battery, thinking that would help it. I haven’t found any vacuum leaks, and I wanted to look for an electrical drain cuz we kept having to jump the brand new battery to start it. Now this morning, after keeping the battery on a charger all night, my girlfriend went to start it and it got smoky. Has anybody else experienced this and how can we fix everything?

Do you mean that you stalled it and it wouldn't start back up afterwards, or that it stalled on it's own and now won't start?

And when you say it got smoky, do you mean that it started and the exhaust was smoky, or that it didn't start but it puffed some smoke, or that the battery itself is what "got smoky"?

Depending on your answers to the above, it sounds like it might just be flooded.
