Having a hell of a time setting the end play on an S5.

Here is what I have.
New thrust Bearings measuring out to .0775 each
K spacer, however, it mesures out to .3165 (Y?)
thrust plate (upper) at .038
bearing housing at .1135
thrust plate (lower) at .116

As I said the bearings are new and the balance of the parts are in near new shape. I have triple checked the installation.

I am getting an end play of about .0051-.0052

With the above setup no spacer will work to bring the end play in line. Any ideas would be appreciated.

 

Grind .002 or .003 off the one you have. As you can see, I not a professional engine rebuilder. But you did ask, and that is what I'd do.

 

first of all, what are the factory tolerances for endplay b/c most of the time it's not zero.

 

I want to avoid grinding at this time. The spec is .0016 - .0028 with a max of .0035.

 

I talked to the Mazdatrix guys today and they were baffeled as well. I ordered a Y and Z spacer. Also bought a new dial indicator, maybe my cheap piece of crap might be a issues as well. looking for any other ideas....
