Ems

Uh... I know EMS is supposed to manage some things.... But not much about it at all. I was talking to a friend the other night and somehow we talked a bit about CDIs, and he seemed to believe that an EMS could also be able to manage the same task that a CDI box among the things it does...... So I was wondering........ Could it?

That was a little hard to comprehend...
It depends on which CDI box you're talking about, as some of the newer units (i.e. MSD Digital 7) come with computer interfaces and programmable ignition maps.  NONE of the CDI units I have seen can control fuel, so there is no way it's a true aftermarket EMS.

Hah hah, sorry, I was tired and had a long day, and didn't know how to phrase what I was saying anyway...

What I was asking was, could an EMS do the job of a CDI box like the MSD ones? That's what my friend was thinking, and I don't know much, so I decided to ask here.

I didn't think a CDI could do the job of an EMS, I guess I must've phrased it really badly to make you think that I was asking that ^_^;; I just meant, could an EMS do the job of a CDI box?

There are not aftermarket EMS units that have built in CDI capability.
The closest thing is the Electromotive TECII/TEC3 units, which require their own coils.

Should you continue to refine your question, you can run both a CDI and a standalone EMS. I am running both a Microtech LT8 and a Crane Cams HI-6 with no adverse effects.

Thanks, I was just wondering about this, since he was talking about using as few piggyback units as possible....... I wasn't thinking EMS would do it, since I've seen CDI boxes suggested, and thought that it would be odd to suggest both if the EMS could also fulfill the CDI box's purpose.

Thanks silverrotor, I figured you could do that
