Emergency: Broke a belt on side of road

Hey all, broke my alt belt this morning and popped the water pump belt loose. Car is on the side of the road.

I'm 2 miles from work. Can I drive it in to work to get it off the highway....without the pump? Recommendations.

Got all new belts in my hand....

Can someone give me a sequence for replacing them if I'm doing this in the parking lot at work?

Don't have my tech manual with me.

Thanks!!!

You just have 2 belts, right? One for the alt and one for the air pump. The alt belt goes on first. And check your new ones in about a week or two - they'll probably need re-tightening.

Actually, I've got 3 belts.
Alt, water pump, and AC compressor.

Is it easy getting the water pump belt on/off? Looks like just one bolt....is there more?

2 miles? with no water pump? Probably will make it. Dont waste any time..

If the needle starts getting past 3/4, I would shut it down. DO NOT OVERHEAT THAT CAR!!!

water pump and alt use the same belt. The alt needs to be loosened to get the belt on. You'll need a 12mm socket and a 14mm socket.

2 bolts for the smog pump, and 2 for the alternator. Easy swap. Only problem is getting the belts over the fan and in position.

And you need a pry bar or a large screwdriver in order to put tension on the belts by holding the accessories tight.

You could also leave the air pump belt off until you get home which will save some effort. You can cut off the air pump belt if you have a replacement and just put on the alt and water pump belt. But the air pump belt must move first.
