Question Emergency brake light

This guy stays on all of the time after I put in a stereo. What should I check first? I never messed with it when the stereo was being put in.

Thanks

Mine does that too. But I never screwed with any of the electrical stuff. Its kinda wierd how it works. I take off my ebrake, and sometimes it goes off, other times it stays on. Then when im driving it turns on and off regularly. Mostly turns off when I step on the brake and turns on when I gas it hard. Any idea whats cuasing it? Is it low brake fluid?

I have a 90 T2 and it does the exact same thing, the E-brake light comes on while accelerating and goes off once coasting or keeping speed. I thought it might be cause i just put new tire on that are wider that stock and maybe it was rubbing something or the place that put them on accidently hit something but i couldn't tell anything was wrong just by checking under there, no signs of rubbing or anything. Could be a cold solder point on the dummy lights board. My old 87SE did that a lot, but with a bunch of the warning lights, not just the one brake light.

I have low brake fluid (oops) so I assume that is the reason mine does it. But I have heard that it can be a switch attatched to the e-brake handle under the car that has gone bad, or a cold solder piont in the ECU or idiot light cluster.

e brake light

Check the easy stuff first. There is a mechanical switch which is activated by the position of the emergency brake handle. If the cable running from the handle to the rear brakes has enough tension on it, like when the handle is pulled to set the e-brake, it activates the switch. This tension will vary, as the brake linings wear. If new linings are installed, the distance the handle needs to be pulled to set the brake decreases. Adjust the tension on the brake cable to see if the light goes out.

check the brake fluid level first. When it's right on the threshold of being "low" according to the sensor, when you accel brake and turn it sloshes around and turns the light on and off

Did you check the brake fluid? Is it full?

Even if it doesnt seem that low, I would top it off. The sensor is pretty tempermental about having low fluid..

That would be the first step
