ELECTRONIC egt gauge?

Ok what exactly would be electronic about an egt gauge? I mean does that mean it doesn't have a probe or what? I just figured they were all mechanical or whatever.

EGT's normally use a K-type thermocouple, which is basically a thermistor - a resistor that changes resistance depending on temperature.&nbsp To measure this resistance, "meters" typically shoot a voltage into the sensor and record voltage off the other side - by monitoring the output voltage, you can deduce resistance, which in turn calibrate this to a known table of values to which to you can apply to a gauge readout...

So electronic egt gauges have probes right? They aren't like hooked up to the stock O2 sensor or ecu or anything right?

Not quite right. A thermistor is, like you say, a resistor that changes resistance with temperature, but a thermocouple is quite different. It actually generates a voltage, caused by two dissimilar metals joined at the probe's tip.
Just keepin' ya honest!
