Electrical Whining
So I fixed my voltage issues the other day; it turns out the pos. battery cable wasnt attached to it's connector as well as I had thought.
HaHaHa, Well fixing that obviously helped a lot of things. I've got much more power throughout the rpm range, it runs smoother, no more hesitation at 3000 - 4000 rpms. I'm getting 14.7 volts, better gas mileage, etc... yay!
The problem:
Now I've got this annoying electrical whining sound that is very loud and wasn't there before. This is a s4 N/A and I've got an alternator from my old s5 Turbo retro-fitted into the system. I'm thinking it has to do with the alternator, but I'm not betting on anything; my knowledge of electrical systems is quite limited.....
Any suggestions as to what is causing this whining sound?
Thanks All!

according to my experience with car electronics if the whining sound changes with engine speed, its usually a bad ground or something not grounded at all. i dunno if thats what is happening to you, just something you might wanna check out
Is the whining from the speakers or is is just there? The fuel pump whines, and that could be it. Whining on the speakers usually indicates a bad ground or ground loops.
If it is through the speakers, you need to tell us. Is the system amplified? aftermarket radio?
I would imagine that the installation of a new alternator would be the cause though, so you need to check for problems with that. Also, if you can get an inductive toner ( used for telecommunications equipment) you can easily find the cause.

The radio has been removed, however a few speakers remain. This is as spartan of an rx7 as they get. It doesn't seem to be coming from either remaining speaker.
Ill explain a little more: the stock soldering to the warning light assy has failed god knows how long ago; so the alternator either self excites or gets charged via a jumped and switched wire from the batt. It is only when the alternator excites itself that this occurs, and it sustains until I have been driving for at least 20 mins.

This is a shady fix, I know, but until I decide to pull the dash and resolder crap, that is the way it is.
Unfortunately I don't have much access to telecomm equipment at the moment.... :-)
