ON Electrical problems.Rear defog and Wipers don't work right!

For the life of me I can't figure this out.I want to know how to get my wipers to work on all settings and I want to figure out why the rear defog light is on ALL THE TIME regardless of how many times I press it to turn it off,and why it doesn't work in general.I tried using the search function but every time I try it leads me to either 0 threads or 12783612786 billion that have nothing to do with my problem.

My friend had a peek at the fuse panel and told me that there were only two fuses blown, and that he had replaced them. The fuses were for interior light and for my powersteering that was acting up.Everything else apparently is good.

The little dial on the right of my cluster turns and spins well to all settings for the wipers. There's no clicking, nothing is broken, the problem seems to be an electrical one as it works on setting "I" at a fairly even speed. No "II" and no "Int".My volt meter shows low voltage at around 12 and change,so I'll be testing my alt and grounds tomorrow, but I don't think that has anything to do with it..Any input would help I'm the kind of guy that likes for EVERYTHING to work.

For your wiper problem, you have the infamous bad relay inside your wiper switch problem, steps to cure it is too replace the entire unit with a working one or desolder the old relay and solder in a new one , if you searh the 2nd gen forums there are tutorials on how to do it, TeamFC3S also had a tutorial, but I believe their website might still be down~

Get good known headlight and wiper switches to fix the problems.

These switches are notorious for problems

In all the wiper and headlight switches I've dealt with, I've never seen a bad rear defrost switch.

Does the light come on on the defrost switch when you push it?
Do you hear a relay in the rear of the car click when you turn on the defrost?

Do you have a multi meter?
Check for 12 volts at the two curly wires at the top of the rear of the hatch glass.

My rear defrost has scratches through the grid and that causes it to fail. Examine the lines on the glass for tiny scratches.

Thanks for the advice I'll check the wires in the hatch when I get back home.
When I say it's always on,I mean from the moment I start the car,the little orange/yellow light that indicates it's "on" is lit up.I can press it and nothing happens. It stays lit up.As for the wiper relays would that be in the actual little dial that you can pull off the cluster or in the cluster itself?A link to these tutorials you guys speak of would be awesome

Yeah. The relays are inside the device that has the **** you turn to get the wipers to move. A jpg is attached of a wiper switch.

The relay(s) are on the other side of the board and are soldered in and you must desolder the old relays to remove them and at the same time not damage the board/traces on the board when doing so.

As for the alternator.............put your meter on the battery pos/neg posts and read the voltage with the engine idling. Then rev it up anywhere over 1000-1500 rpm and see if the voltage went up or not. Should read according to this forum around 14vdc over 1000 rpm. No it's not a ground issue. The alternator gets it's ground from the casing of the alternator making contact with the engine. The engine is grounded to the large cable on the batt neg terminal. Sliim to NONE that it's a grounding problem of any sort.

The defog relay is located in the area of the tire jack in the rear of the car. It has four wires in it one of which is pure White and of a large gauge and has power on it 24/7. Other than that I know less than nothing about defrosters for windows.
