Electrical problem?

I ve been having problems with my 88NA. USualy it will start fine but once in a while (twice today) it wont start.

When I start it it cranks over for a maybe 1/4 of a second and everything dies. When i turn the key back to on from start, everything starts to come back slowly, very slowly. The beeper is first barely audiable then it comes back on and then everything else comes back. I just tried to start it and it happened again and after 5 mins the voltage is still around 6v (Ign. on, showing on gauge).

ANyone have any ideas on what it might be?

First though is a bad battery, either just old and tired, or not being charged properly by the alternator.
Check the voltage at the battery with a multimeter (if you need to buy one I beleive they are only a few $$ at any auto store, Sears etc. You need to be able to check things out without refernce to the dash gauges to get a good handle on what's wrong
Second thought is a bad battery connection. take off the battery clamps, give both them and the battery posts a good rub with some medium emery cloth and use some vaseline (not automotive or cycle grease) on the connectors after you reconnect the battery. If this doesn't work check the grounds on the chassis (sorry, frame) from the battery ground cable. If you have a voltmeter check the voltage between the battery -ve and the frame with the lights on main, should be pretty much 0v. if more than 0.1 v then you have a bad ground.
