electrical issue

well.. i used to daily drive the car.. but then i got into a little fender bender and left the car on my driveway for a few wks. then the battery died, so i had to start the motor by jumping it everytime. (i run the motor at least once a wk)

now that i'm starting to drive the car again, i realized that my old battery is dead and i can't even slow charge it. as a result, i brought a new battery yesterday. i woke up this morning, and the battery died. something is draining the battery. any suggestions?

Until you figure it out, remove the negative cable each night and then stick it on before work (slow, but faster than jumping.) Do the same after arriving at work and reconnect to go home.

This weekend, get a cheap multimeter that can measure current. Park the car and take off the negative battery cable. Place the black lead of the multimeter on the negative terminal and the red lead on the cable and see what the current draw is. (You will need to configure the meter to measure current.)

If you have current draw over .2 A, which I believe that you do, you will need to pull each fuse in the fuse panel under the hood. Remove each fuse and press one multimeter lead to one metal tab and the other lead to the other metal tab. Do this for each fuse in the box. If the BTN fuse is drawing significant (>0.2 Amps) current, you will have to go into the cab and check each fuse in the box by the foot rest. When you find that special fuse, it will at least indicate the problematic circuit (maybe you can disable it if it is unnecessary.)

See attached pictures.

I hope this helps you a little

probably a stuck or bad headlight motor. If they don't move all the way to the open or all the way to the closed position, the motor stays hot... draining the battery

Yup, thats what my problem was. When I had the car in the garage I kept hearing this clicking sound. I pulled the rubber adjuster boot off the headlight from below and saw the white **** trying to move.

I ended replacin the whole headlight assembly (I was going to anyway.)
