Electric problem questions.. s4 tii

87 tii 50k mile motor.

When i started my car this morning it idled like *** and the warning lights were all on. I looked at my volt meter at it read 10v. So i figured the blet had broken or something so i popped the hood and the belt was fine...?!?!

i let the car idle for a while, i reved it and hit the alt with a screw driver.. nothing seemed to help. Now i dont know if its a strange coincendence but when the car came to running temp the warning lights went out and the volt meter came to 14.3v. I heard a "click" kinda sound when it happened. Sorta like a AC compressor clicking on kinda sound.

When i got off work it did the same thing.... once the car is up to temp i can cut it off and on and it charges fine.

What do i need to check? is my alt going out? this makes no sense.... It seems if the alt was bad it would just go out not this off and on crap.

PLEEEASE HELP. i dunno what to check.

If you need any more info let me know and ill reply asap.

thanks,
jaared
