Electric Cutout...

Ok here is the deal I own an 87 TII and want the car fairly quiet under normal driving conditions. I was planning on bolting a 3" dp to my main cat and catback and running a 3" exhaust cutout right on the dp.. The only thing is I cant find any 3" dp's that bolt up to the stock cat and catback. So I was thinking if I got a 2.5" dp and ran a 2.5" exhaust cutout right at the dp would that give similair results as a full 3" considering it would flow straight out of the cutout anyway? Or would I be better trying to get a 3" dp and running the cutout on the 3". If anyone has tried this or has any ideas please feel free to post them.

I am looking for a fairly stock look and quiet sound but then roar under open exhaust. Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks

Look at some aftermarket stuff..(racingbeat.com seems to be the number one choice) dump the cat..run presilencer and 3" ..you are going to be slammed with the famous SEARCH so ..go ahead and look first at some previous exhaust threads ..1000's have put on various combo's of exhaust systems ..you'll eventually find something that "works for ya"..or customize..(saves a bit o bucks)..just don't put glass packs on ..you'll melt the crap out of 'em..good luck to ya

oh ya electric cut-out?..does that mean 2 exhaust set-ups?..why..or just open after downpipe?..(i think I know where you are goin..).. set-up to throw the exhaust to open,no pipes (before cat)..it'll be warm under there...rotaries can throw flames..

Yea I was going with the electronic cutout idea so i can run a fairly quiet and normal exhaust and then open it up when i wanted a full exhaust power wise. I was also wondering if since Its just going to be wide open would a 2.5" dp be perfectly fine for the situation? Or would a 3" be much more adequate.

Yea the flames scared me a little because i think I am going to have to point the exhaust cutout downward so it doesnt light the undersiding of my car. So I am just curious if anyone has any ideas as to a good way to go about this.

I believe that someone has already done this. There was a thread no too long ago in the Rotary Performance section.
