electric cooling/condenser fan troubleshooting

I'm a little confused here. I did some searching and I'm a little confused here.

The problem is that the little electric fan that sits on the front of the condensor or radiator stays on all the time. I've been trying to figure out how to trouble shoot this or what is causing this. The fan from what I know is only used when the A/C is on to help cool the condensor. Well the A/C has not been used lately it has been cool.

From searching I have seen things like the cooling fan relay, or water temp sensor???? I'm confused. Does anyone out there no what this little fan is used for and why it would always stay on.

The only think I could find is that one of the relays is not bolted it is just hanging in the front of the car. I'm thinking maybe that bracket acts as a ground. I'm not sure.

Any help would be appreciated.

Well I figured this one out. There are two parts that control the fan. The themo-switch that sits on top of the thermostat housing and the electric fan relay that sits in the well in front of the radiator. The relay was hanging there for some reason. I picked it up and pulled on the connector and the fan shut off. The rubber cover says FB-10 on it. I took the cover off and the plastic cover that covers the relay says FB25 on it.

I pulled the relay apart and could see that it was corroded inside and one of the wires to the contact was broken.

I soldered the wire but it did no good the fan stays on.

Now where the thermoswitch comes in.

It is supposed to give signal to the relay to open or close the circuit.

If you ground out the connector and the relay clicks then it is the switch. If nothing happens then it is the relay.

Lesson of the day, anybody that wants to add something please do.

late

if anyone knows where i can get this relay cheap or the switch let me know
