EGR valve my running problems?

i took off the dynamic chamber and decided to check the egr valve. i took it off and the large hole on the underside was nearly covered in soot. also the gasket was worn in between the two small holes. IS THIS THE REASON MY CAR WONT IDLE? should/can I clean it (and how)or get a new one? also my car runs bad in hot weather and no power under 4,000 rpm.

on a side note i re-adjusted my 'dash pot' so its doing something now and put new seals on the primary injectors. should i take off the rest of the intake manifold or just try this? any help is good help

Put a vacuum hose on the EGR and suck. It should hold vacuum. If not, it's bad and causing a vacuum leak or irregular idle.

Try here instead, Dont know if he'll sell just the EGR blockoff itself but worth a try. Your engine would run better without the EGR anyway. It's there to help control emissions. Dunno if you're required to pass smog where you're at but they check that function in places like Ca. to pass smog.

Gee whiz. Why not get a piece of metal like some roofing flashing. Lay the EGR on top of it. Mark the outline of the EGR on the piece of metal. Cut the outline out and drill two holes in it to match the EGR attach studs.

Put it inbetween the EGR and the housing and reinstall the EGR. Maybe put a film of RTV on each side of the cutout piece of metal and you done. It isn't going to leak, even if it were a turbo it won't leak. Cost??? Got me. A buck? Or less if you have some metal laying around. It DOES NOT have to be a thick piece of metal. Even .020 or .032 thick would do. LIke the thickness of a Coke can.

Here's a jpg of one I made in less than fifteen minutes. Only took fifteen minutes because the blade came off the bandsaw. No bandsaw? Use tin snips or a Dremel mtr.

That's even better Hailers, Would that work with the ACV port also? Even if boosted?

For the ACV it'd work ONLY if you installed the ACV over the thin piece of metal.

IF making a blockoff plate to be held on with just nuts/bolts , and no ACV, you need something thicker. More on the order of 1/8th inch thick minimun thick for a car boosting.

The EGR one as pictured will work for a boosted engine, what with the EGR mounted over it.

some people go carb, therefore, needing to block off the injectors. The J-Spec 12a came EFI and turbo. Most people block the two injector ports.
