Angry egine ticking?

I am hearing a tick at idle it seems to be louder on the side....coming apparently from somewhere around the header Oxygen sensor.....I don't know what it could be the engine was just rebuilt about 2K miles ago.....No Mods just bone stock......and the headlight switch burned out so i replaced it and the wiring and now the rear defogger light stays "on"...is the rear defogger stuck on and how??? Geesh headache city i tell but I love my Rex!!!!

I had something similar to a ticking sound before at Idle. Do you have a significant loss of power? I did. With the above combined, It turned out to be my Leading Coil that failed. Their was no firing whatsoever! It turns out the motor will start and go w/o the Leading pack.

I have that on my FD, but its only at a cold startup after I drive it, the sound goes away I wonder if it could be the leading coil also

Yes they will. All Leading Coil Wire and Ignitor Packs for the 2nd generation, Turbo or Non, can be Interchanged with no problems.

Ticking sound? exhaust leak. Should change with engine RPM.

I have no loss of power so I do not think it is the leading coil....but I will check it to make sure. I did check out the exhaust and there is a slight crack in one of the flanges but would this make a metallic tick....almost like a stuck valve or rocker arm but wait the rotary engine has none! It does seem to lessen and almost die out when RPM's are higher.

Depending on the size of the leak, yes. Frequently it does sound very raspy.

I had a ticking sound on my 88 GXL: NA.
It was the six-port actuator rod with too much play in the linkage.

Doesn't the BAC valve also make a clicking noise at idle... before the engine is at operating temperature? Just a thought...
