EGI COMP fuse keeps blowing
A Buddy just bought a 1988 RX-7 GXL for $500, Car runs awsome. Nothing seemed to be wrong with it. Test drove for about 20 minutes. Bought the car, first day he owned it, blew EGI COMP fuse under hood. Blows the fuse about every 10 minutes or so??? Checked all fuses under dash, all good. Car is LOADED!!! Don't know much about 2nd Gens, Know they tend to have alot of elec problems, Car equiped with factory security, auto door locks, auto windows, P/S, A/C, Cruise, auto sunroof, two stage electric "normal/sport" suspension. All electric works, just keeps blowing EGI COMP fuse. Any ideas???? Been working on all kinds of cars for neerly 20 years, never seen this particular fuse blow???? I am stumped????

Well I know when my main fuse kept on blowing, it was becuase of a short in one of the grounds. Check your harness, and all exposed wires that ground the engine or goto a specific device. Look for exposed wire and tape it up, thats what I did and it fixed my problem.
I have a feeling that you have a short in your harness somewhere maybe where the tape is cracked or kinked. Check carefully.

I don't think its that bad if it blows and his car is still working after he replaces it
Pretty sure its an exposed/shorting wire somewhere in his engine bay.

sometimes, i know we had a truck that came into school that kept blowing the fuse to the tail light. i looked around and noticed a ground wire had broke and once it was reconnected to the chassis everything was good again but most the time it's becasue of a short

EGI COMP feeds all the solenoids on the rack and the two solenoids on the acv. The EGI INJ feeds the coils and the fuel injectors.
Look for a broken wire around the acv solenoids or a bare wire at one of the solenoids on the left of the engine.
Download the factory service manual. I delibertly left out several other things it feeds. They can be found on the free online factory service manual. You'll find them in the wiring schematics. It is a free download.

Check the wiring bundle in back of the altenator, I had (and someone else I know) had this same issue and it was due to the following problem; There's a metal clip, used to hold the bundle in place, that is connected to the back of the altenator pivot bolt. After years of vibration, this metal clip wears at the insulation and causes a short. For me, no wires were visible, but the insulation was worn enough to cause a problem. Simply wrapped the wiring bundle in a couple layers of electrical tape and removed the metal clip. I've had 50K miles of trouble free running since.
Simple $1.50 fix :-)
