ECU Questions
I am doing a TII convresion on my N/A (among other things) and since my N/A engine only has about 40,000kms on it I have decided to sell it along with the emission control unit. However in attempting to remove all wiring attached to the ECU, I discovered that much of it runs over to the drivers side of the vehicle. At first I assumed it would just be a couple of power wires, maybe some grounds an accessory power, etc. but I became worried when I was pulling apart the harness as it runs over the steering column. I began to wonder does the ECU also have other functions? Does it run the tach? does it run the idiot lights? does it run some of my gauges? Basically I need to know if removing the ECU and all attahced wiring will disable features seperate from emissions control systems. If anyone has tried removing theirs and happens to know what the wires that run across to the drivers side are for, I would really like to know
Also if you think you know but would like pictures to help you, help me then let me know

The mystery of the prize.
I have not done the conversion myself but I'm pretty damn sure you don't have to mess with the F harness which is the one you are talking about on the drivers side. You just want to give the ECU and the EM (iirc) harness with the engine, the one that is on the passengers side and contains the majority of the wires connected to the engines sensors.
You can pull the engine with the harness still connected to it all as one if you just disconnect the gang connector @ the ecu on the passenger side, and pull it through the firewall. Forget about the drivers side harness, it's integrated into the majority of the cars functions, the F harness is THE harness, no other harness has so much **** in it on this car.

thanks guys
but if i unplug the harness going from the ecu to the drivers side of the car then how can the ecu possibly work? it wouldn't be getting any power, you see the idea behind pulling it out is so i can sell the motor to a friend of mine with a first gen and he wants it to pass an e- test and he won't have a civic's chance in rotary land of passing it unless the ecu is functional

I believe he's asking about putting his engine into a 1st gen and using the entire FC harness to get the 1st gen up and running. Have seen some conversions, but never was involoved with one. I assume he'd be better off with a stand alone in the 1st gen after the installation.

Here's some jpgs of harness locations. Frankly speaking, I don't think anyone has a Wombats chances in Texas during deer season of making this work unless you have a FSM WITH wiring schematics. That does not mean it can't be done BUT.....
And a little clarification that no one will notice or pay attention to.........The harness that leaves the ECU and exits on the passengers side of the car IS NOT the ENGINE harness. ITS the EMISSIONS HARNESS. That harness feeds the injectors, solenoids etc. It is the EMISSIONS HARNESS, as stated by the fellow who first answered your post. Not important unless describing things and their location.
In the colored jpg, you'll notice the FRONT harness is colored RED and the true ENGINE harness is colored BLUE and the EMISSION harness is colored .....clear or white, your choice.
Free FSM's are online for a very low cost.
