ecu not turning off

hi i have a 89 gxl na auto no fun no fun anyways it was raining for a while down here preaty hard (i dont have my sunroof in its rotted to pieces so i have card board with plastic over it doesnt leak) i went out figured id have some fun in the rain (if you have a rx7 and you dont know what i mean go buy another car) anyways there was just to much traffic on my streets for me to do anything so i just drove around let the car warm up and came home i turn the key to the acc postion on the ignition and the car stays runing for a few secs then turns off but the P light and idiot lights stay on but are VERY dim i turn the key all the way off and there still on i pulled up on the windows switch and they turn off but when i let go they come back on just a little dimmer i did that for a little (turned the car on and off again to see if it would go away or get better didnt) but i got the light to the point where they looked out but by temp gauge still moved up a little when i let the window switch go (meaning the ecu was still getting power) its still raining i dont see any rain in the car and i cant start taking **** apart till it stops raining
SO please help me im very sad i really love this car getting ready for a at to mt swap and a full street port rebuild (gonna do the work my self ) any any any help would be great

it might be your alternator, sometimes the rectifiers can go or something shorts and it allows the car to keep generating electricity and running as long as the engines spinning regardless of the key position. This could also be the source of your dim lights problem, the alternator is shorting across the battery or not charging it

well i figured out if i put it in reverse the power draw seems to turn the power off but its not that the car keeps running because of extra power out put but the ecu seems to be staying on with limited power you can actually here a relay or something that sounds like a relay clicking in the area of the ecu when i have a chance tomorrow morning (cant really get anything done after 12 picking up sisters and getting to A&P school preaty much take all my time up) but when i have a chance ill check through the stuff but keep the info coming its ALWAYS HELPFUL
forgot the lights are only dim when i turn the car off (when the lights shouldnt be on AT ALL)
