Ebay Tower brace bar

Does anyone know if these make a difference on the FC? I wanted to improve the handling a little more so i was wondering if i got the front and the rear if it would help.

I also plan on getting a roll cage put in, and coilovers. and some wheels. since i want to make my FC a track used car. I plan on doing mostly suspension and clutch/flywheel work first before doing engine work.

as of right now i do have intake and MSD ignition tho.

any other tips?

my bet is that it'll probably bend if not crack and snap on you. It may help with less body roll for a little bit but in the long run, it probably won't be a very good investment. Save the $3 and $20 shipping and buy a better one. Like cusco, jic, etc..

cpracing has a triangulated one that looks nice and beefy and will most likely fill your requirements.

The second one you posted the link to (the open circle) is just no good. Out of the thousands you could possibly pick, that will be the worst one to go with. I know theres a few Ebay strut bars of quality..just not those

If your going to spend the money on coilovers and a roll cage, then buy yourself a real strut bar.
The adjustable strut bars on ebay don't add any stiffness. Try a corksport bar for about $70.

Actually the top one looks kind of like the one I got way-back-when. I'm sure I paid more then $20 for it...think I got it from Mazdatrix or MazdaMotorsports. It worked ok. It was nice to have something shiney under the hood. The rubber strut covers wouldn't stay on anymore though. As far as stiffer, it's hard to say...the 91 vert is already pretty stiff.

Those ones that are triangular (to the firewall) or have a little arm connecting them to the engine (probably the alternator bracket) seemed more functional.

Matt

For track time, you should check the rules first so no one upgrade puts you into a harder class. I did solo-II and my car was right at the stock limit.

it's been on my car for a few months, definitely stiffened up the front...

As comparison, I would say my bigger front sway bar made more of a difference then the strut brace.

If you're going to get a strut brace, why not get one that does everything?

A triangular brace that connects to the strut towers, the firewall, and also has an engine torque brace.

http://www.mazdatrix.com/h7.htm has one.

I bought the one in the first link a couple months ago. It's lying in my closet now. When I first got it and tried to put it on, the middle hole in the brackets wouldn't fit over the lip of the strut towers. So I had them machined slightly bigger (about 1/8" in diameter). Then they fit over the lip, but when I went to put the bar in it hit my FD alternator, which I cannot lower or get shorter belts (I barely got stock sized belts on there). If you have an FD alt. you know what I mean. I'm kinda worried what will fit in my car with my FD alternator.

yea an anti roll bar will probably be better than a strut tower bar...a bit more expensive but I'm pretty sure they are much more effective.

do some searches and you will see. No one has reported anything bad about the ebay strut tower bars except for fitment on some occasions. My rear strut tower bar fitment was horrible!

trust me, mine was REALLY bad too... i had to re-drill the strut bar plates in the rear AND when i torqued them down, they bent a little bit....

but the front is pretty good... and even if the quality and fitment for the rear is not that good, it still stiffened up the car alot

first one.. they took the time to add a # d profile arounds the tower ring... then forgot to gusset the actual X bar supprts..

JUNK

2nd one, open hoop on tower mount, useless for anything other then city driving and hard parking..

CP racing part.. they no longer make them.. they were also not overly good, poor metal chioce, however concept is good..

They still make them...And "poor metal choice"? They were made of steel. Very strong. Not as "bling" as some of the polished aluminium eBay bars, but I would take steel in this application over aluminium (unless it was a hard alloy) any day.

Always remember that the CP bar is a NON ADJUSTABLE bar. RX-7s are getting very old at this point, and 20 years on the road means that almost EVERY car is bent in some way. Through normal use, shock towers move, firewalls warp, etc. Because the bar is non adjustable, some fitting may be required.

to those who said the fitment was poor...

when i got mine i had to "machine" it down about an 1/8" around on one side
just took a dremel and spent 15 minutes getting everything ground down enough

it really wasn't much of a problem. i didn't expect fitment to be perfect, considering how inexpensive it was...

The last owner of my car had an ebay POS bar on and I hated that thing. It was never tight and no matter how much I adjusted it I never could get it tight. I could grab it and jerk it back and forth and hear it rattle from being loose. Even when taking it off it looked like it was about to fall apart!

I chucked that thing in the corner of my garage and went with the Corksport front/rear ones, MUCH better quality.

I had the same experience as you...

Mine came out to $19 shipped. For the price it's worth it...

well i have the first one and it works great. i recommend that you get a shorter alt belt since it will be snug. if you leave it like that, the bar will get a hole by the constant vibration. my first one did that lol. so at 12.00 you cant go wrong.

it's just a metal bar, not that hard to make. Don't really see any problems with it as long as it fits...
