Ebay short shifters only fitting S4?!
(This may have been slightly covered before, but from what I've searched, questions were about S4 fitment, and not S5)
Plain, and simple, I would like a short shifter just for the hell of it. And I'm not willing to pay $15,000 for mazdatrix/corksport. I know,
don't cheap out" and all that ****, blah blah blah. I don't care if it's cheap/wobbly, It couldn't be worse than my stock shifter.
My question is, why in the **** does it say it only fits S4 models? My understanding is that the stock shifters are identical, aside from thread pitch. But these only fit S4's??? wtf?

they're all interchangable with minor modifications.
some of the transmissions had a bushing inside the fork for the bottom pivot ball which i believe was the series 5 non turbo. simply removing the bushing should allow it to work, but don't quote me.
all of my experience back when i was dicking with these SS' was a long time ago, and some specifics have changed with the design since they actually are designed for the RX7s now.
why did i stop with them? because they suck with the turbo transmission, i got tired of having to throw my body into each and every shift. the turbo transmissions shift like a truck... because it is technically a truck transmission(originally designed for the rotary pickup, then the rotary sedans/B series trucks and eventually all turbo coupes).
the other issue is the bushings aren't very good quality, the nylon lower bushing wears rather quickly as does the slide groove insert which will probably only last about a year. upside is OE mazdatrix slide inserts should fit.

Why do you assume that cheap=wobbly?
My "POS Chinese Ebay Crap shifter" is the best shifting I've ever experienced- crisp and positive and very short throws.
Given that the stock shifter can inexplicably buzz and rattle (even with new bushings), I'd be careful of holding it up as the standard to beat.
