FL ebay short shifter!

After $59 +shipping, and 3 business days later. I received my new short shifter. It's not smaller than stock I would say same, but the throw will make you smile.

Out of box.

Stock

It unscrews.

Getting some where.

Old rubber, see those screws... screw em!

Halfway mark!

Getting the shift apart = a bitch. The piece on the left was reused due to new one being ruff. On the right reused duh.

Looks as ruff as it seems, fail try again.

1st gear

5th gear

It's tight, but I did wrote this after I finished it. I agree with icey, it's starting to lose in up. I love it, Should have bought it long time ago.

Great buy! I saw the identical one at some sites ranging from $150 to $300!? WHAT THE **** IS THAT?

Oh yeah... I got like 2 ebay bucks from this, and good feedback.

S4 OR S5?

I got one, S4 but the little plastic bushing on the end had to be 'fixed' it didn't fit. Mine rattles also. nice throw tho... shift **** threads are different too... I was a little unimpressed, but paid like $40 so really can't complain as throw is reduced. I just hope it never snaps off, but I don't bang gears.

Bought the same one almost 2 yrs ago.....also had to grind down plastic/fiberglass bottom bushing.

No complaints at all.......pretty rough sometimes too.

i have no experience with this particular one, but my experience with friends rwd cars and short shifters was it feels real easy to miss shift in my opinion.

I installed a similar eBay kit a year and a half ago.

A few hints about installation...
- Make sure you have all new rubber boots, particularly the one that goes around the shift lever and bolts to the top of the extension.

- On my kit, the "pin" that locates the lever was actually a threaded shaft...it needs to be firm in the ball bushing but not too tight. Use Locktite so it doesn't back out.

-I discovered that the ball was not seating on the lower tapered bushing (PlastiGauge confirmed this). Used big washers from Ace Hardware plumbing dept. to space the lower bush up so the ball sat on it fully.
Getting this right took a few tries.

-I machined the upper part of lever down as far as possible and then rethreaded it...this shortened the height a few inches.

-Finally- and most importantly- use the heaviest **** you can find.
I found a Nismo **** that feels lead filled, the extra weight up top really contributes to positive feel.

All told, I spent an afternoon fiddling with the install but it was well worth it.
Total throw from 1st to 2nd (measured at the center of the **** top) is @ 2.5" and can be done with fingertips.
Very positive feel, it's almost like your grabbing the gears themselves.
Never missed a shift.

Now that you've installed the kit and gotten over the different feel, go back and "tune it up"...you'll be glad you did.

I bought Corksport's short shifter, the thing is a piece. the throw is nice but way to tough to put it into gear. i have a new fawned for the stock shifter, way smoother.

What is a gear pin? I needed to take it apart so I could get the rubber off without ruining it.

It's a spring looking thing. A metal clip that's about in the middle of the shifter hole.

Interesting, I don't recall seeing it. I'm going to look in the Haynes book. Does anyone have a picture?
I might need to have it, right?

Its a little U shaped pin/clip in the middle of the shifter hole so to speak that allows your shifter to slip/snap back into neutral, the bottom ball of your new shifter would of kinda nudged it aside to the left on install.

I bet getting that shifter portion apart was a bitch..I just changed mine and I am ordering a new trans shifter dust boot.

Not trying to thread jack... (but it is about a shifter)...
I also have a short shifter.....I love the throw, but hated the height of the overall shifter (w/ the ****). Specially if you are using bucket seat that sink you into the seat.

But then i found this shifter... and it bolts right up to my short throw.. (and it is about 1" shorter in overall height without cutting the shifter)
