the plate is all you really need, you can hook whatever intake piping you want to pretty much

Yeah, from my understanding for the NA the stock intake is one of the best since your biggest road block is the MAF and sucking warm air from the engine bay is no good but on a turbo car i don't think sucking warm air is such a big deal since it is warmed up by compression anyways. plus it will sound pimp with a turbo I'm a ricer at heart :p

Yes, you are.
Colder in, colder out...compressed or not.

So you can just bypass the intercooler then, right?

no because the TMIC (while is does very little) is what cools the compressed air... however i'm pretty sure it doesn't cool the air down to a temperature below that of the ambiant engine bay temps so I don't think sucking air in from the engine bay is so bad.

The stock TMIC does not "do very little". It's quite effective in stock configuration.

Sucking air in from the engine bay is about one of the worst downgrades you can do. Unless you have a large turbo where the turbo itself and intercooler piping prevents you from properly ducting the intake to a cold air source, there is no excuse for replacing the properly designed Mazda stock intake with something that pulls in hot engine bay air. The loss of power is dramatic due to the less dense intake charge.

You will notice hot air vs cold air on the stock tmic. It will be less noticeable on full fmic setups, if it all. Some setups with sprayers will cool the charge below ambient even.

colder air means more air molecules. simple as that. the the stock snorkel and air filter box on there. sure it heats up, but the air hardly has enough time to heat soak in that thing.
