Eating Coolant Prob (Searched)

Hey guys,

My S4 NA has been having a coolant problem lately. I start it up drive it around doesn't get warm 1 bit, then "add coolant" light goes off so I go and put water in it, fill it up and go on my way, It doesn't get hot at all, always at 1/4, It doesn't bubble at all (Test for a bad coolant seal), I have to add coolant alot and the engine smells like it. My guess is I have a coolant leak and the coolant drops onto my engine (no coolant on ground) and evaporates. Is this the sign of a bad seal or should I get it pressure tested? Btw the car still pulls super great and no smoke at all on start-up.

Could be a leaking O-ring in the engine. I would hope it's not though because would cause a rebuild...You could try the block-weld technique if you're daring.

eh....leave the car running and do some searching? I know mine is losing coolant, but thats because of the radiator cap is messed up, so it spits out **** from the neck.

CyborgRyu,

I'll do that tommorow

Wayne,

I'll check that out, I hope its a basic fix

Parasite,

I'll do that if I 100% know that the seals are the problem.

Sounds like a coolant leak. Also, my S4 doesn't run above 1/4 temp on the gauge.

Yo,

Checked it out, put some antifreeze in there, air bleeder valve, then filled it, put the cap on and started it up, Grey smoke came out for 1 second ( I jumped to check the exhaust) and left, went to smell exhaust, didn't smell like coolant. (The car has been sitting here for a week maybe that's why it puffed for a sec) Looked under the car I saw it dripping in a few spots, got my rag cleaned it, now 2 spots, on my pan by engine, and lower rad hose. I watched it the whole time for about 20 min, eyeballed about how much coolant dropped, shut it off, waited and opened the cap, Yup I just got some hose leaks, The smell is now centered around my exhaust manifold area so i'm guessing a hose there and a lower rad hose. What a scare ey?

On my car, the heater core was leaking. I noticed damp carpet on the passenger side. As a temporary fix, until I had time to rip the dash apart, I used a few teaspoons of black pepper in the system. It is not permanent, and it will flush out when you do a back flush to the system.

[Edit] Sorry, I stared typing before you posted to this.
