Well I would pull the tranny then put it back together. That seems easier, but if you have the clutch lined up so that the transmissions male end can go into the clutch it should fall in to place. I would go buy a clutch alginement tool it is like $10 and will save you a ton of hassle.

I've put 2 engines in RX7s and changed a few clutches but it's always been where the trans was hanging under the car before I put the engine in. It sounds theoretically possible. I guess it depends on how strong/elaborate your engine lift is, and whether the car is on jacks or up on a lift. Tell us if you put them together first and if there are any problems.

Make sure you look into the pilot bearing area and make sure that the pilot bearing is intact and in good shape.

well i droped the tranny (literaly) and the clutch ended up being aligned fine. so i got the tranny as far on there as i could out of the car this is. which ment it is about .5 inch away form seating on the motor. got me a mfg(medium ******* hammer) and some clamps(4 foot clamps rule) and clamped and beat the tranny on the motor while puting and tighening with the boltas all at same time. there wre three of use by the way. then the motor and tranny went into the car liek buter.
