Early and late S5 turbo motors?

Is there a difference between early and late S5 13b turbo motors? Please post pics so i can tell!



Also is there a different in S4 and S5 turbo trannys?

Between the motors, not that I know of.

Between the transmissions there's a different Y-Bracket and Crossmember set that ONLY works on S5 manual cars's transmissions [the Y-Bracket connects diagonally to the transmission so both it and the crossmember are different]

some later model series 5 engines had a thicker rear iron casting which made them a more durable motor for making bigger power.

Karack thats what i was looking for. Any way to tell? I know there are some different intake manifold holes and plates and some markings on the keg its self are different. I know both are S5 but I wanna know what one is the later one!

look at where the rear iron meets the rotor housing just below the oil filter, the casting will be quite thicker if you have the revised iron, if you are still in question then you likely don't.

How about front covers? And the thermostat outlet? This jdm motor i have doesnt have a rad cap...

S5 had a plastic thermostat neck with 3 bolts and no cap.

Will S4 cover work on S5? Ive never really heard anything about this.. I know the o rings are different..

all of this information is available by doing a simple search...it has been discussed many times. you can also tell the difference by simply looking at the parts
