E-Fan shroud: how do i make one?
I was thinking about getting a sheet of plastic and making an electric fan shroud out of it. I was wondering how i should shape it and what/ what not to cover with it to get optimum air flow. I have a 16" fan pulling air through.
Should i shape the plastic to fit at all sides of the radiator, and fit the perimeter of the fan snugly as well?

Unless you do a lot of stop & go driving, you don't need one IMO. I only turn the e-fan on right before I get to work (46 miles into the trip) when I hit a couple of lights, & she cools right down (with no shroud)...

I do know that if you don't have an underbelly tray, your fan can pull engine compartment air forward, under the radiator and then back through it (making it ineffective). Most cars use an air dam mounted directly below the radiator to block this air - unfortunately my radiator is only 4 inches off the ground as it is, so I can't mount anything underneath it.

thats great if you have room. but a lot of people like me are doing some type of V-mount H-mount F-mount and are trying to make room by takeing the stock fan shrowd.

I have no underbelly tray. I have a s***load of room under my hood, about 8-10 inches between the e-fan on the radiator and the water pump pulley.
What do you mean by not making one out of plastic unless knowing how to work with it? I would get the highest grade plastic possible, and shape it with a heat gun. Do you mean sealing it or covering it with something to increase its ability to withstand the heat?
Im still not understanding why a simple setup like this wouldnt work, can anyone shed some light?

The truth is that im not looking to buy another fan, im more interested in making a shroud myself. I figure original fan shroud= plastic, my fan shroud= plastic. I can get pretty handy with a heat gun.
Im also stubborn, i bought this damn fan for a 100 bucks and god dammit... it will be shrouded! Plastic is cheap, it will still be cheaper than getting an escort fan at a junk yard.
My question is will this be an effective method of getting more cool air to my engine during stop+go and hill climbs? Also blocking out under-hood air from my radiator. Once again im planning on making a plastic sheild that covers 100% of the radiator except for the fan

Thats it, except thats a really nice one It covers the sides, top, and back of the rad. With a nice finger chopper fan.

couldn't u find a way to mount the e-fan on a cut stock fan shroud so you (a) save the space b/c the shroud has been cut to whatever dimensions you need and (b) covers most of the radiator just by design

hahaha, i've got an e-fan, but never bothered with it... just didn't see how it would really make THAT much of a difference, and besides, since i got my e-fan in my fc, i have had zero cooling prob's (it prob'ly helps that i got a koyo at the same time, heh)

ford taurus or mercury sable fans. the shroud is almost perfect for the stock rad, and some guys who have run this after a black magic say that the taurus fan keeps the car cooler than the black magic. And they are only like 20 bux at a wrecker. Some even have different speeds.

i got a 1st gen eclipse fan on mine, covers a little over half of the radiator and i have no problems with it, even with the a/c on in stop and go trafic and 90* weather it stays right where it should be.

Do a search for pics of my car, i have one of those fans and a pic of installed. Actually, let me see if i can find it...
